Tanner Foust heading to Kentucky for Global Rallycross this weekend Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle to push for podium return

 LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (May 18, 2017)
Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust heads to Louisville, Kentucky, this weekend for Round 2 of the 2017 Global Rallycross championship. He will push for a return to the podium after opening the season with a second-place result in

Tennessee last month.

The two-time series champion says a format changed introduced this season means more excitement for fans and drivers alike.

“From the first practice all the way through to the main event, teams have to push as hard as possible to keep up the pace,” said Foust. “For us on the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team, that means we need to be focused on finding speed and maximizing performance all weekend long. The stakes are high at every stage.”

The new competition structure introduces more rounds of racing and groups the competition to encourage more battles between close rivals.

This weekend’s event takes place Saturday and Sunday on a purpose-built track on the grounds of the Kentucky Exposition Center. The course measures nearly seven-tenths of a mile and features the series’ typical mix of pavement and dirt, as well as the spectacular 70-foot dirt jump.

Foust this year returns to the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team as a favorite for the title. In 2016, he finished runner-up in the championship after scoring podium results in seven of 12 rounds, including four outright wins. He scored a second-place result last month in Memphis, finishing narrowly behind teammate Scott Speed.

The Global Rallycross series promises 12 races on the calendar in 2017, with stops in five exciting new cities as well as a return to familiar fan favorites. NBC has full coverage of every stop; this weekend’s race airs Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
