Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust sweeps Barbados doubleheader
Late season charge brings third Global Rallycross title within reach

BUSHY PARK, Barbados (October 4, 2015) — Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust is in the hunt for his third Global Rallycross championship title after taking a pair of wins at the Barbados doubleheader this weekend at the Bushy Park Circuit.

“I’m glad to bring this double win home for Rockstar, for Volkswagen and for Andretti,” said Foust, who is now second in the points chase behind teammate Scott Speed with one race remaining in the 2015 season. “We’ve been working hard as a team in these last doubleheaders to really rake in as many points as we can and we’ve put together a great run.”

The two-time Global Rallyross champion arrived in Barbados on a podium streak after scoring second- and a third-place results at last month’s Los Angeles doubleheader. Heading into the season finale in Las Vegas, Foust and Speed are the only drivers who remain in title contention, guaranteeing the young Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team a championship this season.

“It’s an amazing feeling to know that no matter what happens at the last race of the year, it’s going to be a win for us,” said Foust. “It has been an unbelievable experience to join this team for its first season last year, work together through the ups and downs of developing a brand new car — and now to be so close to a championship feels incredible.”

The Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle had the winning pace all weekend. Foust qualified at the top of the leaderboard and won his Barbados 1 Semifinal to take a front row starting position in the main event. There, he led from wire to wire. On Sunday, Foust repeated his perfect performance, winning both his heat and semifinal races and leading the Final from start to finish.

Foust holds the all-time record for podiums in the series, with 17, and is the only multi-time Global Rallycross champion. He earned back-to-back Global Rallycross titles in 2011 and 2012.

This event marked the second year the series has visited the Bushy Park Circuit. A new rallycross track configuration brought the course length to more than a mile — the longest ever seen in the series. It featured a challenging mix of high-speed corners, technical turns and a short dirt section. Fans packed into the grandstands for the event, a highlight of the racing season.

The Global Rallycross Championship moves to Nevada for its exciting series finale November 4 on the Las Vegas strip. Full coverage airs on NBC.

Rallycross is a blend of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition. It promises intense crowd-pleasing action in a fan-friendly track environment. As many as 10 drivers line up to start at once, piloting high-horsepower compact cars through race traffic over a challenging short course that features jumps, unbanked turns, hills and transitions between pavement and gravel. It is emerging as the top youth-market motorsport in the world.
