Double victory for Tanner Foust at GRC Phoenix doubleheader Dominant performance for Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle

PHOENIX, Arizona (May 22, 2016) – Tanner Foust swept both races of the GRC Phoenix doubleheader this weekend, qualifying the Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle in the top slot for both races and winning every heat en route to a pair of lights-to-flag victories.

The two-time champion is now the most winning driver in GRC history, with a record nine career wins. He leaves the season opening weekend with a 25-point lead in the championship standings.

“Getting out front is critical in rallycross and by qualifying first, I definitely had the best starting positions all weekend,” said Foust. “But all credit goes to the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team whose hard work in the off-season and amazing efforts here in Phoenix this weekend is what got us these wins. It’s a great feeling for all of us on the team to start the season this way.”

The track at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park put drivers and their equipment to the test. Blistering heat pushed temperatures inside the cars well into the triple digits and a series record 1,300-ft long straightaway saw top speeds over 120 mph.

Full coverage of the Global Rallycross Championship airs live on NBC and is available online live and on demand.

Next up for Foust is the FIA World Rallycross of Great Britain on the historic Lydden Hill Circuit May 27, his first of two World RX races this season. A week later, he will be back in the United States and looking to extend his winning streak at Round 3 of the Global Rallycross Championship at Fair Park Texas in Dallas.
