A Pair Of Podiums For Tanner Foust At 2010 Rallycross Season-Ender
MILLVILLE, NJ (Tanner Foust Racing; November 7, 2010) — Tanner Foust earned a pair of podiums this weekend in an action-packed RallyCar U.S. Rallycross final weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ.
This weekend’s double-header was the successful finale to RallyCar’s inaugural wheel-to-wheel season, boasting record entries and spectator attendance. Competition was fierce, with five top overseas competitors joining the field to challenge America’s best.
Foust put in a strong showing in his Rockstar Energy/Etnies Ford Fiesta to finish in third-place in the Saturday competition, and moved up a spot to second-place on the second day of racing.
“The Europeans in the field made for tough competition: these are the best rallycross drivers in the world and it’s no surprise they were dominant this weekend,” said Foust. “It’s a glimpse of the potential for the series over here and I’m pleased to have joined them on the podium.”
A modified course configuration and weekend format saw double the dirt, jumps and door-to-door racing, with qualifying, multi-car heats, and exciting main races on both days of the weekend.
“We saw intense battles with no room for error and heats decided by 10ths of a second,” said Foust. “Every single corner in this sport is do or die, and that’s what makes it so much fun.”
Foust landed on the podium at all four of the inaugural US rallycross races this year, scoring two wins, and finishing second and third at the final rounds. Although the 2010 events were held as a demonstration series with no official championship was awarded, Foust was the highest scoring driver of the four rounds.
He campaigned an all-wheel drive Rockstar Energy-Etnies Rallycross Ford Fiesta prepared by champion Andreas Eriksson’s Olsbergs MSE Ford team. It is the same type of vehicle he drove to double gold medals at X Games this summer and has been using in the European Rallycross championship.
The all-wheel-drive car is fast and nimble, featuring a 550 horsepower engine and two second 0-60 mph acceleration times.
In addition to his US rallycross campaign, Foust ran select events for his rookie season in the FIA European Rallycross Championship. Foust is the first American to compete in the series and has advanced through the very competitive field to the A-Main final event twice, crossing the finish line in third-place at the highly competitive Swedish round.
Rallycross is a blend of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition. It promises intense crowd-pleasing action in a fan-friendly track environment. Six drivers line up to start at once, piloting high-horsepower compact cars through race traffic over a challenging short course that features jumps, unbanked turns, hills and transitions between pavement and gravel.
Foust’s 2010 competition schedule also included a return to the Formula Drift series, and ESPN’s Summer X Games.
