The Mitsubishis Put Pressure On Factory Subarus
Aberdeen WA, Sunday April 19th— Rockstar Energy Drink rally racer, Tanner Foust, stood on the podium for the third time in three Rally America races with a third place at the Olympus Rally. In just their second time out in the all new Libra racing built Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X, Foust and co-driver Chrissie Beavis won three stages on the first day of the rally and constantly swapped stage leads with the factory Subarus of Ken Block and eventual winner Travis Pastrana.
Unfortunately a drive shaft failure late in the first day set Foust back and led to an overnight change from the “dog box” to a regular synchromesh transmission—requiring him to use the clutch for shifting and putting him at a slight disadvantage for day two. With Block out of the running due to mechanical issues, Foust continued to battle Andrew Comrie Picard and Pastrana on the Sunday challenging them for the lead until another mechanical issue slowed him. Foust ended the rally with third place. Foust is now tied for second place in the championship with Pastrana.
Foust noted, “The race this weekend was a rare scene, Evo’s and STI’s battling it out for seconds at the top. Subaru has traditionally dominated the US Pro Rally scene but with Rockstar’s new EVO X and Andrew’s quick EVO IX the pressure is on.”
Tanner Foust is four for four with a podium at three Rally America races and the Formula Drift season opener. Foust will be at Road Atlanta May 8-9th to continue defending his Formula Drift championship in his Rockstar Energy Drink Scion and at the Oregon Trail Rally on May 15th-16th.
